4th of July weekend is quite the weekend in Marquette; full of singing competitions, parades, food, and fireworks. The Annual Food Festival began yesterday and ends tomorrow night. I went to the Food Festival yesterday for lunch and ended up staying for the Colgate Country Showdown. The winner of this country talent show goes onto a larger competition and is in the running for $100,000. I have attached a video that is self explanatory. This was one of the contestants. No joke.
Today I went and had a good time at the corner of my street watching the parade that SHUT THE TOWN DOWN. No joke. Nothing in town was open...not even the gas station! The people watching was almost better than the parade. And where else but in Marquette would the 4th of July parade end with a mammoth snow plow. I’m not talking your average snow plow that is seen on the streets of Madison, Lansing, or Farmington Hills. This resembled more of a plow attached to an industrial size dump truck…think they are trying to tell me something!?
Tonight are fireworks off the old Iron Ore Dock :)
